The case of Texas Vs Johnson case was the result of the burning of the American US flag, By Mr. Gregory Lee Johnson at the Dallas City Hall on Tuesday, March 21, 1989. Mr. Johnson burnt the flag because he was protesting against Reagans Policies. If Mr. Johnson was found guilty his punishment was to have a $2000 bail, and two years in prison. Mr. Johnson had the protection of the first amendment which uses the freedom of speech and also of the eighth amendment which protects him against excessive bail. But it came down to 5 votes for Johnson and 4 against him. He was sentenced without punishment. After his actions it made it illegal to burn the national flag in Texas.
